I started drawing and painting as soon as I could hold a brush. I’m pretty sure I even ate the paint.
Though my parents and family were scientists, bankers and business professionals, they all encouraged and supported my imagination and creativity. I minored in Fine Art at CU Boulder and received my Bachelors in Advertising and Design. I then attended Art Center College of Design in Pasadena to deepen my art and design skills. After graduation I worked as an art director both full-time and freelance at top agencies and design studios. A decade later I was offered a chance to join Cactus as a partner where I helped alongside a vastly talented team to grow the business and the accolades of our work to incredible heights. Over two decades later, with Cactus in a position of strength and momentum, I made the hard yet adventurous decision to leave advertising and get back to my beginnings of making fine art as my professional focus.
Today I enjoy an eclectic range of art and creativity. From expressionist painting and drawing to experimental multimedia and film, to printmaking and sculpture. I enjoy breaking conventions in subtle or not so subtle ways. I find cultural norms and creative problem-solving to many times be at odds with one another and it’s stupid-fun to try and play with those dynamics in my work. Maybe it’s from my background as a creative in advertising and branding, but I love being out in the world. I love getting out into the wild of nature but also the wild of humanity too. I like hiking and making art outdoors, but also embracing the weird, wild and wonderful uniqueness of daily life.
Teaching creative and design as an adjunct and mentoring creatives in their careers has also been a passion of mine over my career. I was offered a part-time position as a Scholar in Residence at CU Boulder’s College of Media Design and Information where I teach design, branding and creative problem-solving in the graduate and undergraduate programs. I’m eternally grateful to my family and friends, and my “sciency and banky” parents for the unending support.
